Hydroikos Ltd. is a consulting firm founded with the goal of helping clients to find sustainable, ecosystem-based solutions to water resource and environmental problems. Ecosystem-based management contrasts with a single-valued, single-product approach to the management of natural resources, which often fails to recognize the complex web of connections sustaining the economic values that we obtain from the natural world. Ecosystem-based management recognizes the enormous complexity of natural systems, and acknowledges that our understanding of this complexity is incomplete. It also recognizes that human institutions and economies are closely coupled with natural ecosystems.

Our name is a combination of the Greek words for "water" and "household"; "oikos" is the root word of both "ecology" and "economics".
