Wetland Restoration Planning and Design
- Measuring tide heights, and deriving local tidal datums
- Modeling tidal circulation in muted tidal wetlands and
estuaries
- Measuring and modeling sediment accumulation in wetlands
- Developing geomorphic relationships for use in channel
design
Watershed Analysis from a Water Quality Perspective
- Monitoring water quality and stream discharge, and estimating
constituent loads and discharge-concentration relationships;
- Prescribing treatment approaches and designing wetlands for
treatment of urban runoff;
- Preparing Watershed Sanitary Surveys, pursuant to the
California Surface Water Treatment Regulation.
Environmental Impact Assessment and Review
- Evaluating watershed impacts of Timber Harvest Plans
- Evaluating impacts of wetland creation and dredged material
disposal alternatives
- Evaluating hydrologic and water quality impacts of
agriculture urbanization and strip mining.
Jurisdictional Determination and Permitting
- Determining the limits of wetland jurisdiction, under Sec.
404 of the Clean Water Act
- Preparing Joint Aquatic Resource Permit Applications (JARPA)
for projects in the Bay Area
- Helping clients deal with sensitive and difficult enforcement
issues
Expert Witness Testimony
- We have testified in 10 cases, in both State and Federal
courts, involving:
- wetland jurisdiction · wetland contamination
- water quality impacts of timber harvest, land development and
industrial activity
- causes of erosion and sedimentation

Wetland Restoration Planning and Design We
have many years of experience in the planning and detailed conceptual design of
wetland restoration projects. This has included measurement of tide heights and
derivation of local tidal datums, modeling of tidal circulation in muted tidal
wetlands to predict modified tidal regimes, modeling the accumulation of fine
sediment in marshes, and developing geomorphic relationships for use in channel
design. We can produce designs at a level that permit easy translation to
design drawings and specifications.
Environmental Impact Assessment
and Review Our impact assessment experience includes evaluating the
hydrologic and sediment impacts of timber harvest plans, evaluating wetland
creation and dredged material disposal alternatives, and evaluating the
hydrologic and water quality impacts agriculture, urbanization and strip
mining.
Jurisdictional Determination and Permitting We have
helped to identify the limits of wetland jurisdiction of EPA, and helped
clients to obtain required permits, including wetland and water quality permits
(under Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act), Lake or Streambed
Alteration Agreements (under Section 1603 of the State Fish and Game Code), and
BCDC permits for activities in the Shoreline Band around San Francisco Bay.
Expert Witness Testimony We have testified in 9 cases
involving wetland jurisdiction, wetland contamination, water quality impacts of
land development, and causes of erosion and sedimentation.
Watershed
Analysis from a Water Quality Perspective Our experience and
capabilities in this area include:
- Watershed Sanitary Surveys, pursuant to the California
Surface Water Treatment Regulation
- Monitoring water quality and estimating constituent loads and
discharge-concentration relationships
- prescribing treatment approaches and designing wetlands for
treatment of urban runoff.
